Dear Mr. Seward
Your letter of inquiry, dated November 21, 2009, regarding a
plague request for 218 19th Street has been researched by the
Pacific Grove Heritage Society's Research Team. A proposal
was subsequently presented to the Heritage Society board of
Directors and approved.
Tax records indicate that the property was first assessed in
1888, for the original owner W.A. Cummings, however the
original house was replaced in 1898. The new owner was a
Mrs. Almira E. Olmstead. An Assessors listing is attached
noting the succession of ownership. The original property's
footprint appears on the 1897 Sanborn Map, which is
attached for you records. The replacement home appears on
the 1905 and 1914 Sanborn Maps also attached.
Unfortunately, we do not have a succession of Sanborn
Maps dating back to 1888 at our research center. Your
plague will indicate the original owner of the subject home
to be A. E. Olmstead with an origination date of 1898.
Plaques are presented biannually at the Heritage House
Awards in May and the Historic Home Tours in October.
If you have any questions please contact the P. G. Heritage
Society at .
Respectfully
