Mrs. Lyons Side Ones continues Page 4 I wrote down a few names of people I remember my grandmother talked about. Asked what she remembered in 1905 about Pacific Grove, she said: Ray Steiner and Brannagan had a grocery at Forest and Lighthouse, there was a tailor shop and curio shop. There was a pickle barrel at the grocery which her sister tipped over . E. B. Lewis and Mr. Van Norden were jewelers. M.rs. Tilton was a friend of her grandmother Miss Coniver and Miss Brown were school teachers. Mr. Gilman owned the curio store and restaurant where Prim & Proper is now located. Mr. Gilman had two daughters who were 16 or 17 when Mrs. Lyons was a little kid. One lived in Seaside in the last twenty years. Mr. Lweis had two daughters a little older then Mrs. Lyons. Ruth Lewis is about 96 and lives behind St. Mary's -might be well to see her soon. The Pacific Grove Hotel had a grandstand, garden, paths, lawn. Concerts were played on Sunday and they were later moved to the Beach. They went to Mrs. Coopers house across the street on Fountain for Sunday dinner aft er church. She cooked large platters of food and you paid for dinner probably a El.'00 or $.75. There was a stable on Fountain owned by Gardiner--a daughter still lives here. The other stable was Mammoth, the night of the fire my folks wouldn't let me go out, but I remember seeing everything being cleared away and the street put through after that. Another thing in front of the Pacific Grove Hotel there was a horse trough and in below that one for the dogs to drink from.
