Scholink Performance Realty & Investments 1011 Cass Street, Suite 108 Monterey, CA 93940-4563 RE: 131 Sixth Street in Pacific Grove Dear Mr. Scholink, I recently saw your brochure for your listing at 131 Sixth Street in Pacific Grove. Under "Possibilities Include:" was listed "Tear down & start over". While this is not impossible, it may be considered improbable. As you may or may not know, 131 Sixth is considered a special building in Pacific Grove and is listed on our local register of historic places. This cottage was built in 1904 as the first artist's studio for the noted California seascape artist William Adam. Mr. Adam used it as his studio until 1910, when he moved to the corner of Central and 12th. Now it fits into the neighborhood quite well as a residence and should be preserved that way. I believe any potential buyers should be made aware that this house is protected and it's demolition would not be taken likely. We have gone on record in the past as being opposed to it's demolition or any drastic exterior modifications. Special hearings and permits may be required. Buyers should check with the Pacific Grove Planning Department for any further details. I hope you would encourage any potential buyers to restore or remodel the building as a single family dwelling, or duplex. Gutting the interior would not be opposed, but exterior modifications will be closely monitored, especially the sections visible from the street. Good luck in finding a buyer in tune with the feeling and look of Pacific Grove.
