Dex Rivett - 5760 Holstein Way, Sacramento, CA. 95822 - - email: April 2, 2001 Hi Adam... ...thanks very much for the information about the MeFarland house. I appreciate the time you spent gathering it. I've searched through the Rivett Family Archives and have come up with items which can establish the year the structure was occupied. An abbreviated timeline reads like this: 1. 1876 (in the Fall) Dexter Mcfarland, his wife, Mahala (Higgins) Mcfarland, and Georgie Mcfarland, their daughter, came from Maine to Sacramento. They remained in California six years. 2. 1876 - Mahala's sister, Eliza (Higgins) was already living in Sacramento, having married a John Stevens. 3. 1881 (Sept. 21)-The MeFarlands returned to Maine to sell their property there. 4. 1882 (August) - The MeFarlands returned to Sacramento from Maine. 5.1885 (February 10) - Georgie MeFarland married Edgar H. Rivett (son of John Rivett, pioneer Sacramento businessman.) 6.1888 - John and Eliza Stevens built a house in Pacific Grove at 343 Lighthouse and 8th Street (per your assessor's rolls. 7.1889 (August) - Sarah Rivett (John Rivetfs wife) visited Pacific Grove with Georgie (MeFarland) Rivett and Edgar Rivett possibly staying in the Stevens's house. 8. 1897 (October 6- 16) - Georgie's letter (see October/November 1996 Board and Batten) describes her wagon trip from Sacramento to Pacific Grove with her parents and young son. They arrived on October 16, 1897. Excerpt from Georgie's letter ofthat date: "Made up bread today, unpacked some. Ma washed then spent the afternoon in looking at Mrs. Barber's lots (Laurel Ave. & Park Street) Have come to no decision yet. Mr. Ragian thinks we ought to get nice lots even cheaper than that, and says, "don't decide 'til we look around a little more." 9. 1898 «ast week of January) - "Moved into our new house at 310 5th St. P.G. - Jan 1898, last week." Source: Notation in Georgie's handwriting on inside back cover of her little birthday book. Copy enclosed for your file. 10. 1898 - "Jan. Lastweek of month Georgie'sfolks moved into new home at P. G. which was builtfor them" , OCR Text: Dex Rivett - 5760 Holstein Way, Sacramento, CA. 95822 - - email: April 2, 2001 Hi Adam... ...thanks very much for the information about the MeFarland house.
