what the city’s plans are for the

As with most Fire Districts
around the nation, Lake Ste-
vens Fire receives a number of
911 calls from many of the same
people.
In an effort to serve the resi-
dents of Lake Stevens, they have
teamed up with Fire District 7
out of Mill Creek/Maltby/Clear-
view and Fire District 3 out of
Monroe to help those people
who seem to have to call 911 on
a regular basis.
Scott Koch has been hired as
the Community Resource Para-
medic for the three districts.
Koch, who has been a paramed-
ic with District 7 since 1990, just
started his new job and is look-
ing forward to serving all three
communities in a new way.
“Really our main goal comes
in three parts,” Koch explained.
“We want to improve the experi-
ence with citizens who use 911,
improve their health and save
taxpayers money.”
Paramedics are currently be-
ing trained to watch for those

Lake Stevens Fire hopes to help those in high need
who Koch may be able to help.
Those who they seem to be visit-
ing on a regular basis who may
just need other types of help but
don’t know where to find it.
“Having someone like myself
on the streets and out in the
homes for 15 minutes can be
very helpful,” Koch said, “My
hope is that we can connect
these people with the services
they need. If we can connect
them with resources that can
meet their needs we can im-
prove their health.”
One example of someone who
could benefit from Koch’s help
might be a person who seems to
fall often and calls 911 for help.
They may be referred to Koch
by another Paramedic who has
helped them before.
Koch can go into their home,
meet with their family and help
them figure out what might be
going on. Maybe their medica-
tions are making them dizzy,
they may have objects in their
way and they are tripping over
them because they can’t bend
The first ever Carleton Farms

the farm for a fall festival of lo-
cal brews all in an effort to raise
money for the Lake Stevens
Food Bank.
Brew Fest was held last week-
end, September 26-27 from
noon to 5.p.m. at the festive
farm on Sunnyside Ave.
Guests were offered several
fun options for the fall grand
opening weekend including
pumpkin fun runs, a corn maze,
pumpkin cannon, kids bucket
train, and the ever popular
pumpkin patch,
Brew Fest added to the festivi-
ties incorporating the fall tradi-
tion of beer and beer gardens.
“Brew Fest presented beer and
spirits tasting on Saturday and
beer and wine tasting on Sun-
day,” explained Tracy Vincent,
Brew Fest organizer.
