Klaus brothers Henry and Bill erected this substantial brick struc—
ture in 1921 to replace their frame grocery store after its I
destruction by fire. Over the years it has housed grocery, phar—
macy, liquor, barbershop, billards, and cafe businesses. A second
story dance hall known as Klaus Hall was converted to apartments
in the 39708, and the ground story has been recently rehabilitated

Believed to date from the early 18903, this frame commercial build—
ing has always served as a tavern, restaurant, cardroom, and small
supply store. Old photographs depict its false front, its shiplap
siding, and its handsome big windows with amdngs. First asbestos,
and now cedar shakes hide its original character.

This present—day realty and insurance office bears little resem—
blance to the original two story, hipped roof railroad hotel with
its covered porches, balconies, and decorative art glass windows
The "l'buntain View" was later known as the
"Cascade." In the early
19305 its second story was destroyed by fire. Only the ground
floor retrain-'5, much altered, the last of Granite Falls' numerous
old hotels.
