The first owner was listed as Mrs. C.B. Ames; 2nd owner 1893 as James R. Balch.
Though not of the horizontal emphasis of most shingle style homes,this
structure does have many of thisstyle's features. The shingle style began
its popularity c 1880, but is not commonly found in Pacific Grove. This
particular house is Victorian enough in its appearance to blend with houses
at that time, but remains distinctive.
