BLUNT HOME 117 10th Street (Built by Charles Brown 1888)
This cottage was built in 1888 by Charles Brown, who
built another home on the tour: the Bukey Home which he
built for M.E. Lawrey in 1887. If you look across the
street you can see another example of his building skill:
110 10th Street, owned by the Gustafsons and featured on last
year s tour.
The Blunt's home is a simple Eastlake seaside cottage, its
style being manifest in the bay window and gable bracing.
Notice the brackets in the bay and on the porch and the
subtle treatment of the wooden trim on the bay window.

"The glazed-in gables provide light to the second story
without altering the original roof lines. The divisions of
the new triangular gable windelds echo the shapes formed
by the original gable bracing." Neil Hosford, architect
and former owner carried out these modifications in the
process of converting the attic into two bedrooms--he also
dropped the ceiling, added the stairs amimims*ladlimimking
w*molmwmxrnwmthnoumpmarilmmwinwx and shingled the exterior.
Mr. and Mrs. Blunt have personalized the interior with
oil paintings by Mrs. Blunt, antique and traditional
style furnishings, and their collections of Oriental
art--including antique Chinese puppets. Last, but not
least, 10-year-old Heather has a stuffed-animal display
which will delight people of all ages.
