Need to move a house or building? A train

Lopezes are doing the job.
In the 15 years they have been in business, the
Lopez House Movers and Demolition of Salinas
have put wheeled dollies under at least 1,000 hous-
es. Some have been moved across town, others just
to the other side of a lot
The houses have been ornate Victorians or run-
of-the-mill homes. I.arge or small, plain or fancy,
the Lopezes see that the house arrives at its desti-
nation in good shape.
"We know every house we move," said Alfredo
Lnpez, 42, who was taking a lunch break with his
crew while moving a historic log cabin at Spruce
and Chestnut streets in Pacific Grove.
The rustic cottage, one of two remaining original
log houses in Pacific Grove, was being moved from
one part of the large, wooded lot to·another, where
it would be placed on a new foundation. The cabin,
built in 1902, will be restored, said owner Lai'ry
Scholink, a Peninsula real estate broker. Some
missing logs will be replaced with hand-hewn logs
