PADDISON HOUSE„,420 Park Avenue, Pacific Grove: 3-&1,4 *'4*4 - -'9411*44
STEINER HOUSE ....682 Spruce Avenue, Pacific everal years he was building the new structure
which is the present residence. Charles W. Steiner was the son of A. J. Steiner of 138
Fountain Avenue, Pacific Grove, who had deeded the land to his Grandchildren.
The Steiner Residence faced on Spruce and covered about 3 lots, with a back yard and
later a double garage was built on the north end, on the 5th lot.
The Steiners moved into the new home about the fall of 1925 and resided there until,
after the death of Mr. Steiner in 1945, the residence was sold in January,1946 to
WilfredW. Boshaine.
Perhaps another owner before 1977, when it was purchased by Joyce and Bob Donat who have
painstakingly restored the interior to "what was believed to be" its original elegance.
However, Mr. Steiner was never able to complete the interior so the original was incomplete.
Mr. Donat reversed the usual pattern of renovation and r emoved many fixtures which had
been added. Believing the residence to be over 100-years old it is now: "entering the
home is like walking back into a turn-of-the-century Pacific Grove. It is replete with
Vi dorian furnishings. Many are Donat family heirlooms. Oil lamps have been installed
in place of modern electric fixtures.0 (From home-tour of 1982)
Note: There were NEVER oil lamps used in our home. Electricity was installed before it
was occupied I Work done by Charles Steiner and his brother Ray Steiner, An Electrician.
There was NEVER Victorian furnishings in this house while the Steiners occupied it.
