Crash kills woman in first fatality

SHELTON — The holiday Week-
end had barely begun before the
area’s first fatal crash occurred.
Sheryl A. Race, 51, of Ballycastle
Way, Shelton, died in a head-on col-
lision shortly before pm. Friday
on state Route 3 in Deer Park, the
Washington State Patrol reported.
The driver of the other car, Betty
J. Wing, 42, of Belfair was flown to a
Seattle hospital for treatment. She
was in stable condition late Friday.
The death should remind drivers
to be extra careful on the first holi»
day weekend of the summer It typi
cally means traffic tie-ups, closed
roads and long drives.
The Washington State Patrol will
put more troopers on the road with
an emphasis on catching Speeders,
drunken drivers and other traffic vie
olators to keep holiday travelers
safe.
