Elda Marie ”Neal
Elda Mariel Neal died from
complications of several strokes
Thursday, August 13, in Sheltonl
She was 83 and had been a Shel-
ton resident for two months.
She was born in Spokane on
March 10, 1915, to Carl F. and
Hanna (Reinhardt) Neumann.
She was the child of missiona«
ries and lived in Argentina until
the age of 8, speaking only Ger-
man and Spanish. Her father
taught her English on the boat
that brought them back to the
US. She went on to graduate
from high school with honors. She
took nurse‘s training at Glendale
Sanitarium and Hospital in Glen—
dale, California, where she met
her future husband
She married Edson Neal on
January 31, 1941, in Las Vegas,
Nevada. They were married 57
years. Mr. Neal preceded her in
death on May 31, 1998.
She earned a bachelor’s degree
and became a registered nurse,
later receiving a health and de-
velopment credential as well as a
secondary teaching credential.
She enjoyed all types of nurs-
ing and working as a school nurse
at Oxnard Union High School in
Oxnard, California, until her re-
tirement in 1977. She was in»
volved in reunions and education»
5.] groups, holding many offices.
Mrs. Neal had a sparkle and
enthusiasm in all she did, her
family said. She loved nursing,
helping people, traveling, hiking,
camping, playing the piano and
organ, entertaining friends and
relatives. But her greatest joy
was being with her husband.
She is survived by daughters
Peggy Murphy and her husband
Don of Hemet, California, and
Chloe Scoles and her husband
Bern of Shelton; son Jack Stevens
and his wife Stella of Kent; broth—
er Joel Neumann and his wife
Theresa; sister- in-law Marjorie
Neumann; and brother— in- law
Marvin Neal
Also surviving are grandchil-
dren Cherie McDaniels and her
husband Steve of Kent, Todd
Scales and his wife Stacey of
Grapeview, Douglas Stevens and
his wife Nancy of Seattle, Kelli
Dole and her husband John of El
Cajon, California, and Kirk Scoles
and his Wife Karen of Shelton;
and 10 great-grandchildren and
many nieces and nephews
Mr. and Mrs. Neal’s remains
will be buried jointly in Cherokee
Memorial Park in Lodi, Califor-
nia,
Cremation and arrangements
are by McComb Funeral Home in
Shelton.
