Randolph B. Lake Shelton resident Randolph El “Randy” Lake, 88, a retired ship— yard electrician, died of pneumo- nia Saturday, February 5, at Saint Peter Hospital in Olympia. He was born April 6, 1911 in Plato Center, Illinois, to Ralph and Jennie (Bernard) Lakel He was raised in South Dakota and worked on a sheep ranch, where he hunted coyotes, which had a bounty of $5 each. He lived in Shelton for the past two and a half years and before that, lived in Auburn for 20 years. He married Bessie Jane Webb on September 2, 1938 in Bremer- ton. She preceded him in death. Mrl Lake served in the Ma- rines from 1933 to 1937 and at~ tained the rank of private first class. He served on the battleship USS Texas and helped aim a bat- tery of 14-inch guns on the ship stationed on the Hudson River. He was an electrician at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton for 27 years from 1939 to 1966, and was also an electron- ic technician for the Todd and Lockheed shipyards on Harbor Is- land in Seattle. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Brcmcr- ton, the Auburn Bible Baptist Church, Lang-ran Memorial Bap- tist Church in Kent and the Inter- national Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He took classes in mountain climbing at Olympic College and became an avid mountain climb- er. He liked climbing in the Cas- cade and Olympic mountains, es~ pecially Mount Washington. He enjoyed gardening, picking apples in Wenatchee, raising grapes and raspberries and growing apple trees. He also enjoyed feeding birds and being involved in his church and singing in the choir. He is survived by his son, John Lake of Springfield, Oregon; daughter Norma Ingram of Shel- ton; grandchildren Jim lngram of Olympia, Janie Chamberlin of Sumner, Jeff Lake of Madison, Wisconsin, and Lisa Lake of Springfield, Oregon; greatv grandchild Matthew Chamberlin of Sumner; and numerous nieces and nephews.
