School auditorium, Carmel, on

ing to Gilbert Seldes, critic, Angna
Enters providei "the most varied,
the most persoinali and : the most
entertaining entertainment you
can possibly find.. /She is a joy
to observe." 0
A combination of dancer, act-
ress, and pantomimist, Angna En-
ters gives an kntire theatre in her
program. Her third book, "Silly
Girl" is under contract for screen
production, and is one of the titles
on her program for April 5. The
MGM 'films "Lost Angel" and
"Tenth Avenue Angel", starring
Margaret O'Brien, were also based
on Angna Enters' stories and pro-
gram.

Dies at Rest Home
Requiem Mass was held Satur-
day morning ht the San Carlos
Catholic churcH for William Field-
ing Smith, who passed away after
a long period .of illness.
Smith, who' was instrumental in
the developrn¢nt of % the Pacific
Grove waterfront, was ; born on
November 72 1859/ inj' San'Juan
Bautista; came to Monter* in 1864
where his father, tile late James
Bennet Smith, served as the sixth
sheriff of Monterey county.
In 1904, Smith purchased the
site of the present P. G. b2ach,
and in spite of opposition, blasted
out the rock,' and set up a bath-
house, bathing resort and boat-
housej later cut back the"sea wall,
lengthened the beach, and built
the stone wall and pier.
Mr. Smith left the Grove in 1910,
after selling : his interests to the
father of Regikiald Foster, and em-
barked upon ygars of travel, spend-
ing two years in Spain, 17 in Mex-
ico, five yearsi in Cuba, long per-·
iods in Cuba, 'Italy, San Domingo
and Haiti, where he operated a
sugar plantation during World
War I. He spent the last few
years, of his life in Pacific Grove.
