Limited research performed at a visitor's request, focused on William Menzel, but including the broader Menzel family.,The Menzel name was well known around Granite Falls and in broader areas of Snohomish County. I extracted a few written references that might be enjoyed. From the early records, it appears that two brothers (Henry and George) arrived somewhat earlier than the third (William), although their homesteads were adjacent, located between Granite Falls and Lake Roesiger. Below is a modern aerial photograph with the homestead outlines shown in red, the larger lake shown is still known as Menzel Lake: Over the years, ownership of the property evolved. By 1910, George retained the northernmost 80 acres of his homestead, while the lower 80 acres belonged to the Robe-Menzel Lumber Co. Henry’s acreage belonged to Sobey Mfg Co (another local mill), and William’s property belonged to The Sound Timber Co.
