Carl Sundstengylfigil Private family services will be held today for Carl W. Sundsten of Olympia. He died December 15 at Capital Medical Center in Olym- pia. He was 61. Mr. Sundsten was born on June 14, 193.0 to Carl Nicholas and Hazel Carrie (Johnson) Sundsten of Shelton. As a child he lived with his parents at Camp Five and Camp Three and attended Mary M. Knight School in Matlock. They later moved to Shelton where he was active in many sports at Irene S. Reed High School, graduatingin 1947. Following high school, Mr. Sundsten played professional baseball before going into the US. Navy in July of 1948. On Septem- ber 13, 1957 he was married to Bet- ty Wolden in Shelton. He worked as a highclimber for Simpson Tim- ber Company. In 1958, Mr. and Mrs. Sundsten moved to Alaska where he owned and operated the Hagen and Sundsten Logging Company. Mr. and Mrs. Sundsten returned to Thurston County to establish their home in 1973, but Mr. Sundsten continued to travel back and forth between Alaska and Washington. In additional to his logging busi- ness in Alaska, Mr. Sundsten worked as supervisor for a number of other logging companies. Survivors include his wife, Betty M. Sundsten of Olympia; his three sons, Mark E. Walden of Centralia, Erik W. Sundsten of Seattle and Kit W. Sundsten of Olympia; his half-brother, Clifford Kelly ofAna- cortes; his half~sister, Shirley Leaf of Seattle; and three grandchil- dren. . Private family graveside ser» vices will be held today at Shelton Memorial Park.
