Viking fans arriving at Lake’s
home field State Playoffs foot-
ball opener vs. Kentlake on
November 3 were stunned to
learn that star senior quarter-
back Conor Bardue, riding a
second straight All-Star sea-
son, was not in uniform.
Bardue had broken his hand
in the previous week’s victory
in the Wesco championship
game at Monroe, but the ex-
tent of the damage wasn’t re-
vealed until an X-ray days
later showed that immediate
surgery was required, ending
Bardue’s brilliant Viking ca-
reer.
Enter junior Tre Long, Bar-
due’s backup of last season, but
who had just returned to the
lineup after five weeks of ill-
ness and who had not taken a
game snap all season. Show-
ing little or no rust from that
inactivity, Long stepped in
to guide Lake to an easy 51-0
blowout of the Falcons, North
Puget Sound League’s number
four entry into the Playoffs.
Long’s athleticism and foot
speed were evident from his
Lake beats Kentlake 51-0 in playoff opener
very first rollout (as opposed
to Bardue’s mainly pocket
game), an eight-yard comple-
tion to Anthony Hutchinson.
Given time by Lake’s outstand-
ing offensive line, Long com-
pleted 11 of his first 12 passes
(12 of 16 overall for 166 yards
and three touchdowns in the
first half) as Lake blew out to a
surprisingly easy 31-0 halftime
lead.
Lake took a 7-0 lead at 2:58
of the second quarter, on its
second possession, a 52-yard,
five-play drive which saw Long
complete three straight passes
including a 41-yard TD to a
wide-open Ian Hanson. Brock
Widmann converted the first
of his six PAT kicks.
Lake rolled from there, scor-
ing 24 second quarter points
and outgaining Kentlake by
257 yards to FIVE in the first
half. (Lake’s yardage margin
in the second half was 256 to
46, despite a running clock and
heavy Viking substitutions).
Lake had a 26-7 advantage
in first downs for the game,
Kentlake’s only first down in
Ghosts, goblins, super he-
roes and more could be seen
walking around downtown
Lake Stevens last week at the
city’s annual Downtown Safe
Halloween celebration.
This year’s much anticipated
event was sponsored by local
businesses and community
members and went off without
a hitch.
Dozens of booths offered
prizes and treats after the Hal-
loween Costume Parade.
Laana Larson was instru-
mental in putting the event to-
gether for the community.
“We had an amazing turnout
for the Halloween Festival. So
many fun booths for the com-
munity to explore, as well as
area merchants trick-or-treat-
ing, two Indoor carnivals,, a
haunted house and truck and
Halloween in Lake Stevens enjoyed

treat,” Larson said. “The Cos-
tume Walk had some really
fun raffle prizes for the par-
ticipants and there were lots
of free goodies throughout the
festival. What a fun way for
families to enjoy Halloween in
a safe environment. We are so
thankful for the tremendous
support of our Lake Stevens
community.”
Lake Stevens Fire and Lake
Stevens Police were an inte-
gral part of the festivities and
helped promote safety on this
spooky night.
“The LSPD was very happy
to be part of bringing a safe
event to Lake Stevens” “the
coming together of so many
organizations and individu-
als to put on a safe Halloween
event for Lake Stevens kids
was tremendous, Lake Stevens
Police Chief John Dyer said.
