By the time a helicopter from the Sonoma County Sheriffs Department arrived, his breathing was restored. Five years ago joined the PG Fire Department as a volunteer and in 1980 was PG's Firefighter of the Year. He participated in many civic events through the fire department, including Donna Griggs Days, the Bluegrass Festival, children's bike races and Good Old Days.
