Entertains at Five Hun-
dred in Honor Visit-
ing Ladies.
The home of Mrs. H. B. Chase on
Ocean View avenue was the scene
of a very pretty card party yesterday
afternoon, given in honor of Miss
Donnehoe and Miss Carson of 1 Port·
land, who are visiting her. 7rhere .
were some forty ladies present, who
sp ent a delightfult afternoon at Ave
hundred.
The sun parlor and drawing-room
Were decorated with a profusion of ,
flowers, each ta'ble had its own flow- 1
er, and as the ladies entered they
were given 2 flower, which they were 1
to match at the table they were to ,
play at.
The flowers used were pink and
white sweet peas, pink and whitel
roses, Pelergoniums and ivy geran-
turns, the color scheme of the whole
decoration being pink and white.
Delicious punch was served dur-
ing the afternoon in the Indian room.
At 4 0'clock delicious refreshments
were served, consisting of pink and
white ices End pink and white cake.
Mrs. Chase was assisted in serving i
by- Mrs. Graves and the Misses Win- 1
nifred Tuttle and Hazel Holt. Miss
Lola Lawrey rendered several piano
selections during the afternoon. ,

one of the most popular primary
teachers in California for some years,
and who was taken suddenly ill -
few days ago, is at the Garden Cit
Semitarium iii San Joie.
Her doctor says she will not b
able to teach again for at least
year.
Mrs. McCann of New Monterey ha
been engaged to fill Miss Conover'
place in the Pacific Grove school.
