64, a resident of Pacific
Beach, died Jan. 26,
2014, at his home.
He was born Sept.
26, 1947, in Shelton, to
Albert George Smith
and Zetha Pulsifer. He
had 10 brothers and
sisters.
David attended
school in Shelton and
graduated from Shelton
High School. Follow-
ing his graduation, he
worked for Simpson
Timber Co. until he en-
tered the Army on Feb.
14, 1968. He served in
Vietnam and received
the Purple Heart, the
National Defense Ser-
vice Medal, the Viet-
nam Service Medal,
the Vietnam Campaign
Medal and the Army
Commendation with V
Device. He was honor-
ably discharged Feb.
13, 1970.
He came back to the
Shelton area and re-
turned to work at the
Simpson. He later began
working for the state De-
partment of Social and
Health Services. He next
became a self-employed
commercial fisherman
and was last employed
as an equipment opera-
tor for the Port Blakely
Tree Farm, where he re-
tired in 2002.
Dave’s hobbies includ-
ed baseball, golf, going
to auctions and estate
sales, smoking fish, clam
digging, hunting and
taking weekend drives.
David is survived
by sisters Geneva Un-
derwood, Lori Smith
and Verdi McCloud of
Taholah, and Josephine

Sunset Memorial Park
in Hoquiam.
A celebration of his
life was Feb. 3 at the
community center in
Taholah. Richard L.
Underwood Jr. offici-
ated.
Direction was by the
Coleman Mortuary in
Hoquiam.
