The Heritage Society of Pacific Grove P. O. Box 1007 Pacific Grove, CA 93950 Date: 1/12/99 TO: Richard Saunders 894 Laurel Pacific Grove, CA 93950 RE: Address: 894 Laurel Subdivision: 3rd Addition to Retreat Block: 78 Lot: 19,17 Our maps and tax records show that the above structure was first assessed in: 1906 This means the structure was actually built early in that year, or late in the previous year. The first owner ofthis structure, according to the County's assessor's records was: Mrs. Alice Louise Lewis Other Comments: You mentioned 1904, but as you will see on the attached 1905 map, no structure was on the lots in 1905. The 1907 city directory (attached) shows the Shivelys living there, but the 1926 city directory lists the house as vacant. Perhaps the 1926 owner, Leah Rathbone, lived elsewhere and this was her summer/vacation home. She is not listed at all in the P.G. directory for 1926. Unfortunately I can find no additional info on any of the owners thru 1926. You may find additional information from 1928 forward at the Community Development Dept at the corner of 16th and Laurel. Plaaue Status: El Structure is eligible for a plague and one will be made up for you at no charge. You will be notified when plague is ready. It could take 4 to 6 months. Structure is eligible for plague, but it must be requested by the owner. El Structure is not eligible for a plague at this time because: Enclosed Dlease find: Tax assessor information through 1926. Sanborn maps from 1905, 1914 and 1926. City directory from 1907. Adam Weiland Research Director , OCR Text: The Heritage Society of Pacific Grove P. O.
