The Heritage Society of Pacific Grove P. O. Box 1007 Pacific Grove, CA 93950 008) October 21, 1999 Catherine Conway Coleman 480/482 Laurel Ave Pacific Grove, CA 93950 RE: 480/482 Laurel Dear Catherine, Thank you very much for your letter. You bring up two issues in your letter: the address and an old plague. Regarding the address, in my report to you dated July 8, 1999 I stated that the original address was 220 138 Street. Balbara at the Planning Department was only verifying what we already knew. This fact changes nothing as the maps and other records indicate that this was a wooden structure until the veneer was added in 1936, and used as a residence through its entire existence. It was used as a duplex when the Rogers' family purchased it in 1972. Regarding the Winham plague, Mrs. W.H. Winham owned lot 18 and Mrs. Lucy Hill owned lot 20 in 1883. There was no structure until T.P. Heath purchased both lots in 1884/1885 and built the original wooden house in 1885. Enclosed is a copy of a letter I sent in 1984 to Mrs. Rogers indicated that the original plague was in error. My assumption was that she discarded the plague. The only reason that the house does not now warrant a plague is that it no longer retains the character of the original wooden house. The house there now, although quite charming and attractive in its own right, has the character of a 1936 stone house. We do not issue plaques for dates later than 1926. I'm truly soriy for any confusion. Sincerely, Adam Weiland Research Director Work: Home: aweiland@mbayaq. org 72 , OCR Text: The Heritage Society of Pacific Grove P. O.
