Saturday,Dec.5wasfilledwith
festive activities in Lake Stevens
from the annual Dickens Fair at
Cavelero Mid High School to
Santa visiting town and lighting
the city’s Christmas tree to Lake
Stevens Firefighters earning tips
at Ixtapa to help kids in need
this Christmas.
The day started with the
Lake Stevens School District’s
annual Dickens Fair where
over a hundred vendors lined
the common area, gymnasium
and halls at Cavelero selling
their handmade wares.
Lake Stevens firefighters
collected canned goods as en-
trance fees which went to help
fill the shelves at the Lake Ste-
vens Food Bank.
At 5 p.m. folks gathered in
downtown Lake Stevens near
Jay’s Market for the annual
Christmas Tree Lighting cer-
emony hosted by the Lake Ste-
vens Kiwanis Club. Caroling
and camaraderie kept people
busy until Santa showed up at
6 p.m. on the new Lake Stevens
Fire truck with Fire Chief Kev-
in O’Brien.
After Santa helped to light
the Christmas tree, kids got
the opportunity to sit on his
lap and let him know what
they hoped to find under their
Christmas trees this year.
Tips for Firefighters was
in full swing at Ixtapa Mexi-
can Restaurant on Saturday
evening as local firefighters
gathered tips to help pay for
Christmas gifts for local kids
in need. Each year firefighters
use the money to buy gifts for
kids in Lake Stevens who may
not otherwise have any.
On Sunday, Dec. 6, Ameri-
can Legion Post 181 and the
Women’s Auxiliary hosted lo-
cal military kids at their an-
nual Christmas Party at Lake
Stevens High School. Kids and
their families had the oppor-
tunity to decorate cookies, en-
joy some snacks and visit with
Santa Claus.
There are still kids in need of
help this Christmas. If you would
like the opportunity to help a
child contact the Lake Stevens
Family Center at 425-397-7433.
Unwrapped gifts need to be
turned in by Friday, Dec. 11.
