RE: Your questions from memo dated June 26, 1997
Message:
Hi Gretchen.
When I initially responded that it would take awhile before I could do this, I bet you never thought it
would be this long! I'm sorry. I actually forgot about it until I was rummaging through my briefcase and
found your memo. I'm embarrassed, but here is the information you requested.
135 M 17th Street: Purposely left offlist. This cottage was built as a board and batten structure,
but has since been covered with stucco on the front and right side. Interestingly, the left side was left as
board and batten! My opinion is that it should not be on the list.
246 Locust Street: Original researcher thought that it was not the original house. The 1926
Sanborn map shows a very small 3 room cottage. After reading your research and looking at the house
again, I think that it probably is basically the same structure with some remodeling. My opinion is that it

501 9th Street: I personally decided not to put this house on the list. I watched them virually
demolish the oEigfhal rundown board and batten structure and built the current 'modern' house. This
hang=ed-•6600 long before we started work on the list. I believe it was part of a "block grant" project
This house should not be on the list.
508 Carmel Avenue: The Sanborn map referred to this house as 506 Cannel (not 508), and since it
was stucco, the researcher assumed that they were not the same. After reading your research and looking
at the maps again, it appears that this is the same house and that it was originally built as a stucco house.
My opinion is that it should be on the list.
851 Laurel Avenue: The researcher thought that this was a stucco remodel of a wooden house.
Your research indicates that it was built as a stucco house. My opinion is that it should be on the list.
I hope this helps you.
