Not long after William gave up the hopeless business struggle in Fresno and took a position at Pacific Grove where, along with Walter, Laura and occasional assistance from the other children, he aided greatly in material comfort for his parents, and on countless evenings reviewed with his father the :told days". Louis and Herbert continued to operate the remnants of the original business in Fresno, moving yet again to a smaller location on Van Ness Avenue. But it was an uphill and almost doomed attempts and in 1938 this inglorious segment of its great predecessor gasped and expired. Through these hard years Walter remained either in or closely associated with activi ties akin to the mechanical departments of the original enterprise. Today, in Fresno, he has organized and heads a shop and sales organization featuring elements of transportation. Associated with him is the youngest son, James, and thls business flourishes under the Lauriczen name. The two- story brick structure at Fresno and H remains standing as a successian of business attempts parades through the premises that were formerly a mecca of the city. In Pacific Grove Lauritz and Ahne lived out their lives ln moderate circumstances and relative privacy, enllvened by visits from their children, and old friends from the Valley. Letters came from sons and daughters who migrated to other parts of the state, and soon childish scrawls of grandchildren were enclosed in these messages of parental devotion.
