Two more years and then it's "an-
ehors away" for the controversial 42
foot boat that Domenico Grillo has kept
behind his Shell Avenue home since
1975.
That was the 5-2 vote of the Pacific
Grove Planning Commission last week
when it granted a use permit for Grillo
to keep "the boat" but added the time
limit as a condition.
Grillo needed the use permit after
the Pacific Grove City Council passed
an interim ordinance last September.
That ordinance called for a use
permit to be issued by the planning
commission for the "storage, keeping,
fabrication, construction or repair" of
any boat or other item not self
propelled that exceeds 15 feet in height
or width or 26 feet in length.

T. Arnold Smith and Robert
Mcintyre, two commissioners, said
that the boat issue is already three and
a half years old.
Grillo said that an accurate com-
pletion date estimate for such a large
project is difficult to make. He said he
was trying to get it done as quickly as
he could.
Commissioner Nancy Hauk offered a
motion granting a use permit and
calling for a review in one year.
Dolores Robertson seconded the
motion but it was later withdrawn for
lack of support.
Smith said that he was opposed to
any motion that would grant Grillo
more than another year to complete
the boat.
Smith and Hauk voted against the
final motion that passed 5-2.
The boat first came to the attention
in 1975. That was when
,ought the boat at a navy
lan is to turn it into a
L for vacations, he said.
