Re: Plaque Request 607 Carmel Ave.
The application was processed by our research team and found to be not included on the Heritage
Society’s Historic Resources Inventory nor on the City’s HRI. These two lists are similar but not
the same.
My review of the city’s property files turned up a Building Permit indicating that your home was
built in 1932.
The Heritage Society’s list of historic homes stops at 1926, mostly because we have reliable data
concerning the homes extant in 1926. The green plaques are given out by the Heritage Society and
not by the city; which is a cause for some confusion.
The City of Pacific Grove allows any structure more than 50 years old to be considered for
inclusion in their Historic Inventory through a process called a Historic Screening. You can apply
for it at the Planning Dept. by filling out a form and paying a fee of, I believe, $420.
Although you have a very fine home that contributes to the overall historic character of the city,
I’m afraid that it was built 6 years too late for a green plaque.
Thank you for your interest in the Heritage Society’s activities.
