Leonard [Ig‘OaJrchlld H Leonard K. “Len; airchild, a 17-year resident of the Shelton and Olympia areas, died Friday, November 14, of cardiac arrest at his home. He was 76‘ He was born April 5, 1921, in Plains, Kansas, to Wilbur and Harriett (Knox) Fairchild. He graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho in 1940. He married Mary Elizabeth Howard on August 2, 1942, in Mount Vernon. Mr. Fairchild served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, serving with the flying Tigers in China. He was dis- charged in 1945 as a captain, having received the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal. He worked for Picsweet Frozen Foods in Mount Vernon, He also worked as district manager for Lamb»Weston in American Falls, Idaho, and as vice president of finance for Way Cheng Teledyne in Albany, Oregon. Mr. Fairchild was a member of Saint Benedict’s Episcopal Church in Lacey. He belonged to the Order of Saint Luke’s. He was a talented golfer with a single digit handicap for several years and served as president of Bayshore Golf Club. Prior to re» tirement, he was president of the Boys and Girls Club of Albany, Oregon, and president of the Linn County Association for Retarded Citizens in Oregon, He was named Veteran of the Year in Al- bany in 1974. He is survived by wife Mary Fairchild of Olympia; son Ken- neth L. Fairchild of Seattle; daughters Mary Ellen Fairchild of Mill Creek, Janice Higby of Longview, Joanne Cataldo of Sherwood, Oregon, Barbara 0r- wick of Lexington, Oregon, and Nancy Fairchild of Hillsboro, Ore- gon; sisters Joyce Frey of Seattle and Marjorie Hall of Kennewick; and by four grandchildren, six nieces and seven nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Fairchild, and grandson Kenito Fairchild. A memorial service will be held at 1 pm. today, Thursday, No- vember 20, at Saint Benedict‘s Episcopal Church, 910 Bowker Street SE, Lacey, The Reverend Joan Anthony will officiate.
