Frederick “Fritz” Dalby, 81, a
resident of Shelton for 22 years,
died, Friday, Oct 3, 1993, in Fir
Lane Terrace Convalescent Cen»
ter, Shelton.
He was born Sept. 4, 1912, to
Edwin and Ethel (Morgan) Dalby,
in Seattle.
He ms graduated from Union
Grade School, Union, and Irene S.
Reed High School, Shelton, He
studied art at the University of
Washington. He also lived and
worked in Edmonds before moving
to Mason County.
He was married to Edith Loomis
on April 16, 1938. He met her while
worldng in the journalism field.
Mr, Dalby worked as a crew
member and crew cook aboard a
tug in the 19305.
He worked mostly with boats
and in boatyards. He was awarded
the Olympia Wooden Boat Ass—
osciation Maritime Man of the Year
award in 1991.
He won awards for mtercolor
and crayon work as a young boy.
He continued painting for the re-
mainder of his life and his work
was featured locally and in the
Northwest. He also enjoyed music
and was a banjo player in the
Union City All-Stars Band. He en-
joyed the outdoors, hiking and fish-

Surviving Mr. Dalby besides his
wife of the Shelton home are a
daughter, Karen Sykes, Seattle; a
granddaughter, Annette Shirey,
Boston; a sister, Gwenwyn Air
rams, Long Beach, Calif.; and two
brothers, Edwin, Jr, Union, and
David, Sand Point, Idaho.
A memorial service for Mr.
Dalby will begin 11 am, Friday,
Oct. 15, in St. David’s Episcopal
Church, Shelton. The Rev. Donald
Maddox will officiate. Inurnment
will follow in Shelton Memorial
Park, Shelton.
