To the Honorable Members of the Planning Commission and Historic Resources Committee,
I am writing in regard to the historic property at 115 Forest Avenue.
We are residents and homeowner in Pacific Grove. We purchased a historic home nearby (112 Forest
Avenue) in 2020.
Living in the Retreat has given us a deep respect for the unique character of the Lover’s Point/Retreat
Neighborhood.
We know firsthand the challenges and rewards of maintaining a historic home consistent with the Standards
and the guidelines of the Pacific Grove Historic Resources Committee.
115 Forest Avenue is not only an important part of the streetscape, but also contributes to the sense of
continuity and authenticity that makes this neighborhood special.
The building represents a piece of Pacific Grove’s layered history, and once such properties are lost or
inappropriately altered, they can never be recovered.
I strongly urge the Commission to protect the architectural and historic integrity of 115 Forest Avenue.
Just as many neighbors have invested the time, energy, and significant resources to rehabilitate their homes
home rather than replace them, we believe this property deserves the same consideration and care.
Preserving our historic resources benefits the entire community — strengthening property values,
supporting heritage tourism, and maintaining the charm and sense of place that drew many of us to Pacific
Grove in the first place.
Thank you for your consideration and for your continued commitment to safeguarding Pacific Grove’s
historic resources.
Respectfully submitted,
Anne and Gary Gaddini
