William Vail
William Royce Vail died in
Ridgecrest, California, on Decem-
ber 20. He was 91.
He was born in Mount Pleasant,
Michigan, on February 19, 1903.
Afier teaching school in Spring-
field, Illinois, for one year, he and
his wife, Ora Belle, went to Africa,
where he served for 39 years as a
missionary, teacher, pastor and
administrator for the Seventh-day
Adventist Church.
Upon their return to the US, he
continued to be employed by the
Seventh-Day Adventists until
1968. At that time Mr, and Mrs.
Vail retired and settled in Lilli-
waup. They later moved to Union.
He was preceded in death by two
infant sons, by Ora Belle, his wife
of64 years, in 1989, and by his son,
James Franklin in 1993. Survivors
include his daughter, Martha-Jean
Martinsen of Ridgecrest; his son,
Wayne ofElkridge, Maryland; nine
grandchildren and 13 great-
grandchildren.
