Dear Miss Proud:
Enclosed find my check for $7..00 for a Senior membership
in the Heritage Society. Seems it is ten years s -nce you Inc orporated
and this is the first time I knew of it and that I could become a member.
I am interested because I first moved to P.G. Oct. 18th,
1916 and lived in the "former" house at the corner of Park & Spruce, which
we inherited from our Grandfather, A. J. Steiner, who not only was a pro-
prietor of the Grocery on the No. corner of Lighthouse & Forest (where the
bank is now) but had the Feed Store on Forest Avenue and was a Trustee of
the P. G. School District. My Dad, Charles W. Steiner, tore down the
old house at 612 Spruce Avenue and Rebuilt the house which now stands.
I attended the old Grammer School under "Daddy" Downs and
graduated from high school (the old one) in 1926. Our class was the first
to be graduated from the then, new, gymnasium instead of holding the
graduation in one of the churches, as had previously been the way.
I still refer to Pacific Grove as "down home" although I
have been living here for 40 years now. My plot is in the P.G. Cemetary
so "someday" Illl be going home. Went down last April for the P. G. Days
but couldn't find anv of the "old-timers." I've been to numerous Victorian
House Tours but don't get down as often as Ild like. Used to drive down
for one day trips and back late, but as I don't drive after dark anymore
that has changed things and it is to $$$ to stay overnite...although we did
stay two days in April. ..Mildred Ernst McMath went down with me.
Your CHRISTMAS AT THE INNS TOUR sounds great and I'd love to
go, but I doubt if it will be possible. I have been in the Centrella Hotel,
the Cosby House Inn and Green Gables Inn, when they were on the Tour.
I did not use the membership form you mailed because I wanted
to keep the history of "Ketchum' S Barn" which was on the back. I will be
looking forward to receiving the Newsletter.
Sincerely,
