Photo by Pam Stevens pam stevens This year’s Lake Stevens Ironman 70.3 took place on Sunday, August 16 as hundreds of athletes took to the lake and the streets of Lake Stevens. Lake Stevens Ironman welcomes athletes, Gordon Ramsay pam stevens Each year Ironman brings in thousands of athletes and spec- tators for the annual sporting event which includes a 13.1 mile run, 56 mile bike ride and a 1.2 mile swim. Contributed Photo Families lined up outside of the Lake Stevens Boys & Girls Club on Saturday, August 29 for the Lake Stevens Family Center’s Back-to-School back- pack giveaway. Over 400 backpacks and ad- ditional school supplies were donated to ensure that local kids start the school year right. “The 400 backpacks were do- nated by the community,” Julie Senechal of the Lake Stevens Family Center said. “Over 180 pairs of shoes were also donat- ed by Windermere Real Estate in Lake Stevens.” Lake Stevens Fire, Lake Ste- vens Police, Coe Vision and Ev- ergreen Beauty were also there helping families in need get their kids ready for school which starts Wednesday, Sept. 2. Residents of Ashley Pointe Senior Living volunteered their time as well, helping fam- ilies gather school supplies. This year the Family Center was able to help 50 additional kids prepare to go back to school because of the support of the community in donating addi- tional backpacks and supplies. Family Center holds annual Back-to-School event Hundreds of kids get new backpacks, shoes Kaden 10, Kaleb 11, Kash 4, Kody 11 and Kailee 9 pick up their new backpacks and school supplies at the Lake Stevens Family Center’s annual Back-to-School event on Saturday, Aug. 29 at the Lake Stevens Boys & Girls Club. A group of concerned citi- zens, called the Teen Center Campaign Cabinet, gathered together on Wednesday, Au- gust 27 to discuss ways that Boys & Girls Club hoping for a newTeen Center Community can help raise funds they can raise the half million dollars needed to build a Teen Center at the Lake Stevens Boys & Girls Club. The future Teen Center would be a newly constructed 1,500 square foot space built onto the existing building.
