She married True Balch in 1920 and lived at Potlatch for a year before they purchased the Brinnon Store, which they operated through 1946. For over 30 years she wrote articles for newspapers in Port Townsend, Shelton, Union and Silverdale. She was involved in many community organizations as well as the Mason County Historical Soc1ety. when Hilda was 94 years old she attended the MCHS meeting at Lilliwaup and shared her memories of the Lilliwaup school, the Community and the early days on flood Canal.
