The plague reflects the owner of the first house on your lot, which burned down on Sunday, April 30,1933. Your house, now on the lot, was built in 1938. Your property (lot 8) was always connected with lot 7 (211 Park), at least from 1887 through 1926, which is as far as our tax records go. Lot 7 initially contained the barn for the original house on lot 8 (210 194 When James Painter bought the house and the bamin 1893, he keptthe barn until 1908/09. In 1909, he either converted the barn to a small house or (more likely) removed the barn and built a small house. I guess by that time horses were becoming less common. There were a few different Cummings families in early Pacific Grove, and I don't yet know who was related to whoin... if at all.-Ciii*mings & Co. was an early jewelry store in Pacific Grove and then later in Monterey. I don't know if this is the same family or not. I hope the above and the attached helps you.
