enjoy along the way,” Lake Ste-
vens Fire District’s Communi-
cation Director Laana Larson
explained.
To encourage stopping by
each and every booth to re-

Lake Stevens High School
Drama Club’s Nuns from their
performance of The Sister Act
tied with Lincoln High School
in winning the 5th Avenue
High School Musical Award
for Outstanding Performance
by an Ensemble Group on
Monday, June 11.
“It’s a really big deal espe-
cially since 95 schools in the
state of Washington were
judged, and because we haven’t
won any awards since 2010
when The Mikado won for best
costumes,” Lake Stevens High
School’s Anne Julson said.
“We’ve been nominated and
earned honorable mentions
each year, but we’ve never won
in an acting category. It’s very
competitive. It’s like the High
School Tony Awards.”
Lead, Sophia Mendez, who
played Deloris Van Cartier
was nominated for Outstand-
ing Lead Actress and actually
performed at the awards show,
which took place at the 5th Av-
enue Theatre, complete with
a red carpet event and sold
out audience.
