The Lake Stevens High
School wrestling season is un-
derway and a young Vikings
team looks to continue the
success the program has had in
winning three of the last four
state 4A team championships.
The Vikings are led by three
returning state placers from
last year’s team: 8th place ju-
nior Jacob Bennett at 106l
pounds; 3rd place senior Na-
than Scilley at 120 pounds;
and 3rd place junior Malachi
Lawrence at 170 pounds. State
participant Julian Fryberg also
returns at 152 pounds.
The team traveled to Sydney,
Montana for the Sidney Eagle
Invitational on Dec. 2 and 3.
The Vikings took 7th place of
26 teams.
Placing in the top five in-
dividually were Jake Bennett
1st at 103 pounds; Malachi
Lawrence 1st at 182 pounds;
Marcus Johnson 3rd at 103l
pounds; Nathan Scilley 4th at
120 pounds; Kyle Lacoursiere
5th at 120 pounds and Angelo
Loera 5th at 170 pounds.

at this year’s Military Families
Christmas party held at Lake
Stevens High School on Sun-
day, December 11.
The American Legion Post
181 and the Women’s Auxiliary
have been hosting this special
event for the last six years.
Kids not only got to enjoy a
visit from Santa Claus but as
they waited for his arrival they
got to play all kinds of games,
Military families enjoy the holidays at annual Christmas party
decorate sugar cookies, get
their faces painted and enjoy
delicious baked goods.
Lake Stevens Police filled
out child protection forms
and took photos for parents in
case something happens to the
child someday.
Dozens of prizes were donat-
ed for the raffle and every child
got to have their picture taken
with Santa.
Volunteers from Boy Scouts
to American Legion Post 181
members to Miss Aquafest Roy-
alty all helped out at the party.
