Mary Jane (Meighan) Sagerson
died of pneumonia on March 15 at
her home in Grapeview afler a long
battle with mul—
tiple sclerosis.
She was 64.
She was born
and raised in
Spokane. She
was a graduate
of Holy Names
Academy and
Gonzaga Univer-
sity. In addition
to two years at
Rosary College in
Chicago, Illinois, Mary
she attended the Sagerson
University of 7

zerland, during her junior year
abroad.
She married Ron Sagerson of Spo-
kane on June 25, 1966. They moved
to Grapeview in 1972 to raise Island
Belle grapes.
Mrs. Sagerson was a co-founder
in 1976 of Stretch Island Fruit Tan-
nery, a food processing business lo-
cated in Allyn. She helped manage
the family business for more than 20
years.
She served on the Grapeview
School Board for 13 years. An avid
writer, she published two books:
Grupeview, the Detmit of the West,
which is an early history of Grape-
view co-authored by Duane Rob-
inson; and The Reluctant Cook. a
cookbook for new cooks illustrated
by Holly Sagerson Allen.
In addition to writing, she loved to
travel, especially with her sister-in-
law Suzanne (Sagerson) and broth-
er-in-law Bob Love, She also loved
gardening, cooking, reading, music,
and the company of her family. She
had a fondness for chocolate.
Surviving are husband Ron Sag-
erson of Grapeview; sons Bob Sag-
erson and wife Amy with children
Andrew, Elizabeth, and Tyler of
Mercer Island and Peter Sagerson
of Seattle; daughter Holly Allen and
husband David with son Nathan of
Portland, Oregon; and four brothers
and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life was held
on Tuesday, March 25, at Rill Cha—
pel in Port Orchard.
