As the sun was setting on
Thursday, Oct. 8, Lake Stevens
Fire District held an Open
House to commemorate their
new fire engine as well as present
new Fire Chief Kevin O’Brien
and three new firefighters with
their oaths.
Dozens gathered at Fire Sta-
tion 82 off of Market Street, to
be a part of the Wet Down cer-
emony, which is a long standing
tradition that dates back to the
1880s.
“The new engine is state-of-
the-art in every single way,”
Captain Mike Barry told the
crowd.
Firefighters soaked the new
engine with a fire hose after
which those in attendance took
specially made towels and dried
the stunning new engine until it
gleamed.

Drivers who frequent 20th
Street SE from 91st Ave. SE to
US Highway 2 can see the de-
velopment that continues on
this thoroughfare. With hous-
ing developments popping up
around the area, a new mini-
mart and gas station being
built and the anxiously awaited
Cavalero Hill Park planning,
20th Street SE will become an
even more active road.
Because of the popularity of
this road, the city has come up
with a strategy and plan to add
another lane and presented their
ideas to the community at an
open house held at Cavelero Mid
High School on Tuesday, Oct. 6.
Their plan at this time is
to construct the road in four
phases: 83rd Avenue SE to 91st
Avenue SE; 79th Avenue SE to
83rd Ave. SE; 73rd to 79th Ave.
