In a home dual on Dec. 21 the
eighth ranked Vikings defeated
top ranked South Kitsap by a
score of 43-26.
Number one ranked Jake
Bennett of Lake Stevens started
the dual off with a fall over Mot-
ter of South Kitsap at 106 lbs.
The Viking wrestlers won
six of the first seven matches
to take a 27-6 lead into the 152
lbs. match where number one
ranked Sebastian Robles of
South Kitsap scored a fall over
Ryan of Lake Stevens to start a
run of four wins of five matches
for South Kitsap.
The only win for the Vikings
during South Kitsap’s run was
at 170 pounds where Lake
Stevens’ Isaac Gust trailing
by three with seconds to go in
the bout scored a reversal with
back points at the buzzer to pull
out an exciting 6-5 victory over
number two ranked Nathan
Marin of South Kitsap.
Going into the final two bouts
Lake Stevens held a 31-26 lead.

athletes who are in awe of the
Viking players.
“Last night our family went
to another high school bas-
ketball game, we watch all the
Lake Stevens home football
and boys basketball games,”
Melinda Woelfle said. “The
players and team are improv-
ing each game, which is cool to
watch and see.”
That wasn’t the highlight
for their family though. The
boys lost their game, but in true
sportsmanship, they stayed on
the court to visit with boys
who look up to them and just
wanted to get their signatures
on paper.
“After the game many of the
little kids, including mine,
went up asking the play-
ers for autographs on shirts,
posters, even paper rosters,”
Woelfle explained. “It was
