Mac Dougall King photo Home Open for Tour A world traveler's retirement residence has been chosen for in- clusion in the Pacific Grove Vic- torian Heritage Home Tour. The home of Major General (Ret.) and Mrs. Richard W. Stephens at 451 Ocean View Boulevard will be open to the public on Sunday, April 18, together with several other homes which best portray the city's Victorian heritage. Designed by renowned south- ern architect Thomas Maybeck, the home was constructed in 1908 by Vina Burrell Law of San Jose as a summer home. The home was built entirely of redwood and has a lovely view of Lover's Point and the Bay. When Mrs. Law died she willed the home to a nephew, who in turn sold it to Mrs. Anna Lee Strachan of Fresno. During the last few · years the home was rent- |*[ by Mrs. Strachan to several different families. General Steph- ens purchased the home last year for his retirement home and has completely renovated it. Antique furniture and art ob- jects in ille home were inherited from grandparents, and others were collected by the Stephens from all over the world. The oil painting which hangs over the dining room side-board is of Mrs. Stephen's great aunt. It was painted in 1842 in New Orleans. The Victorian sofa in the mas- ter bedroom came from Saint Louis, and the bedspreads on the four poster beds were made by Mrs. Stephens maternal . grand- mother for her hope chest. Rugs are from Persia; ancient bronzes, jade, ivory and porcelain were brought from the far east. Tickets for the Victorian Heri- tage Home Tour may be pur- chased at the Pacific Grove Chamber of Commerce, corner of Forest alld Central Avenues, for $2.75. , OCR Text: THE PACIFIC GROVE TRIBUNE AND PEBBLE BEACH GREEN SHEET · -, -!Iti@ 1. !1 . .
