home on Hood
Canal, WA after
a nearly three
year battle with
cancer.
Arlene was born
November 26,
1936 in the Shelton
Valley, WA to Elmer
and Dorothy Manke.
She was the fourth of eight
children. She graduated from Irene S. Reed High
School in Shelton.
Arlene was married to Edwin Bac for 55 years
until he preceded her in death in 2007. They
lived in Shelton, WA where they raised their
three children; Mike, Kathy, and Mitch. Arlene
was the consummate housewife and homemaker.
She also worked outside the home. She and her
husband Ed owned and operated Apex Grocery on
Mountain View for several years. She worked as
a secretary for Manke Lumber Company in their
Shelton office for many years. She also worked as
a bookkeeper for Larry Manke Logging. She even
taught classes for a short period at the Washington
Corrections Center outside of Shelton.
Arlene enjoyed nothing more than spending time
with her family and friends at her scenic home
on Hood Canal. She had a great appreciation for
God’s creation and loved looking outside and
taking in the ever changingnuances of its beauty.

She was a fantastic cook and baker and loved
taking care of loved ones when they would come
to visit. She also liked to travel and had many
enjoyable trips with family and friends over the
years. Other interests included playing the piano,
arranging flowers from her yard and knitting.
Arlene was a devout Christian and was a member
of the Evergreen Lutheran Church in Seabeck, WA.
She loved learning about God and studying His
Word. She had several daily devotionals she would
read and her Bible was well used and worn. She
had a gift for loving others in a nearly supernatural
way. She had a seemingly limitless reservoir of
love for those who needed to have their cups filled
with some encouraging words or a hug.
She is survived by her children; Mike, Kathy
(Dan) and Mitch, her grandchildren. Jason, Tiffany
(Jan), Jon, Michelle (Brion), Wyatt, Bailee and
Logan, her great-grandchildren Micah, Sydney,
Fallon and Guy, her sisters; Bunny (Ray) and Judy
Ann, her brothers; Chuck (Judi) and Jim (Bonnie),
and numerous adoring nieces and nephews. She
was preceded in death by her husband Ed, her
daughter~in-law, Deby, her parents, Elmer and
Dorothy, her brothers Larry, Virgil and Ray,
brother—in-law, Jerry Byme.
Services will be held on December 13 at 2:00
PM at the Evergreen Lutheran Church located at
3200 Seabeck Holly Rd NW, Seabeck, WA 98380.
In lieu of flowers Arlene requested that donations
be made to any charity that benefits children.
