She recalled that Mr.. Adam.took art training in Edinburgh, Scotland and 6*m# around the H6rn to Xmerica in a sailing vessel. His early works were in water- 'color., turning to oil ih later years. The Ghirardelli ' family .of San Francisco . owned many of his paintings and they were on exhibit in well-known galleries. : ·.Writings- of the noted artist have - been .2 found in magazines "which for some ,.reason I (Miss Taft) kept after Aunt Mary i:(Adam) *passed· away". Published· in All · i Arts Gossip (July, 1925), Mr. Adam tells U of the "Artistic Resources.of the Pen- insulaN. - Describing the area as having only one or two artists-in 1897, it became . a Mecca for artists in 1925. -"One can paint in the 6Ifen all year round and there · ' is a wealth of material." Pacific Grove, he noted, had "pine and oak- forests and a charming coastline." The August, 1925, ·edition of A U Arts Gossip, betan with v "Adventure Sixty Years Ago, in South America", in which William Adam told of rl iF&*4.>I.:':.:.../.'' , his adventlires before- settling in Pacific Grove. :' Miss Taft lived in Pacific Grove . and recalls singing in the Methodist Church : Choir.
