Rooney Phou: Fax: E-mail: FOUR SISTERS INNS - A FAMILY HISTORY MONTEREY, CALIF. - The Post family home was a spectacular, multi-gabled Victorian overlooking Monterey Bay, with the kind of views people traveled long distances to enjoy. But when Roger and Sally Post relocated from Los Angeles in the early 1970's and bought the arresting, 1888 mansion in Pacific Grove, Calif., they weren't thinking of running an inn. Instead - with the ocean literally across the street and the shops of Steinbeck's "Cannery Row" just a five-minute walk away - they saw the house as the perfect setting in which to raise their four daughters: Kimberley, Shelley, Jennifer and Stefanie. Once they moved in, however, the house - already christened "Green Gables" by a previous owner who had opened it to travelers - still attracted the attention of coastal visitors. The Posts received inquiries regularly from would-be guests who longed to stay in the stately dwelling, with its incredible views from almost every room. Finally, in July 1975, the Posts were persuaded to become seasonal hosts. For several years, they reshuffled their living quarters during the summer months to rent out rooms to enthusiasti guests. As it turned out, the Posts were natural innkeepers. Coupling their lovely home with good cooking and a knack for gracious, friendly service, they soon had a steady stream of business.
