Luvada F. “Nana" O’Brien, a
resident of the Upper Satsop River
Valley near Elma, diedMarch 15 at
the home of her daughter and son-
in-law, Theresa and Harold Beer-
bower of Elma. Mrs. O’Brien was
105.
She was born in Maysville, West
Virginia on February 20, 1887 to
George and Matilda (Schartiger)
Du'nithon. She spent her younger
years in Bayard, West Virginia,
where she attended school. In 1904
"she was married to James R.
O’Brien in German, Maryland,
The couple receive a land grant
in Montana in 1910 and home-
steaded there until moving to the
Queets area in 1917 and Hoquiam
in 1918. They moved to Kelso and
to the Elma area in 1941. Mrs,
O’Brien’shusband served as a park
ranger at Schafer State Park from
1941 until his death in 1954.
Mrs. O‘Brien then moved to
Deep River to live with her daugh-
ter, Elsie Catlin from 1950 to 1971
and then moved to Sunnyside,
where she lived until 1989. In 1989
she returned to the Upper Satsop
to live with her daughter, Theresa
O’Brien Beerbower.
She was a member of the Hatch-
ery Ladies Club of Upper Satsop
and the Waneta Road Birthday
Club‘iin Grandview. She enjoyed
crocheting and making afghans for
her family and friends. She was
making latchhook rugs up to the
time of her death.
Mrs. O’Brien was preceded in
death by her husband, three sons
and one daughter. Survivors
include her daughters, Elsie Faye
Catlin of Sunnyside and Theresa
Vera Beerbower of Elma; and 12
grandchildren, more than 30
great-grandchildren and 20 great-
great-grandchildren.
Visitation was at Whiteside
Chapel in Elma. Pastor John Pais
officiated at graveside services
held March 18 at Sunset Memorial
Park in Hoquiam.
