History of The Batterson Family William Batterson settled on Neahkanie Mountain in the vicinity of the old golf course in 1881. He ran cattle and pigs on the grassy slopes. He was one of the first school teachers in the Nehalem area, teaching school in a log school house (across from the present Bunkhouse Restaurant and motel north of Nehalem. He married people, being a notary, judge, etc. He married the W.K.'Scovels, Bill Schovel’s folks. Faye Reed‘s Father W Batterson, was 7 years old and went to school being taught by his father, William Batterson. My Grandfather, William Batterson, kept Neahakahnie Mountain burned off to make pasture for his cattle. William Batterson had two boys, Orson 17 and Samuel 7,0rson died of typhoid fever shortly after coming to Neahakahnie and is buried on Neahakahnie along with William Batterson. Who died and is buried there around 1912. Their burials are north of the old Cain place.
