RE: USE PERI~iIT N0. 1968-86 (ON-SALE LIQUOR, FANDANGO'S RESTAURANT)
Dear Mr. Lobay:
We would like to take this opportunity to voice our strong
objections to allowing the sale of on-site liquors at Fandango's
Restaurant. Such a use would not be consonant with the preservation
of the small-town character of Pacific Grove. Moreover, it would
establish a dangerous precedent which would likely result in a
floodgate of similar applications from other downtown Pacific Grove
restaurants. These applications could not be arbitrarily denied
and the eventual result would likely be a basic change in the
quality of life and the total community environment of Pacific
Grove.
We have been residents of Pacific Grove for over thirty-five
years and appreciate its character as "the last small town" on the
peninsula,,as much as we apprecia.~e its natural beauty. An important
element of Pacific Grove's small-town character is that it does not
offer an extensive night-life, apart from dinner restaurants and
the upcoming movie theatre, which are largely family-oriented
establishments.
