B. A . Lee 1 Death- Takes··. . P.G. Civic Leader Succumbs at Homi Sunday Afternoon Benjamin A. Lee, one of Pacific Grove's best'known civic and com- munity leaders, died Sunday aft-' ernoon· at his home, 104 Fountain avenue, following an illness of s.everal weeks' duration. Ho was 76 years old. A native of Salem, Mass., Mr: _Lee was educated in th& schools 91 that city and was· in business there until 1926 when he brought his wife and youngest son, Roger K. Leer to Pacific Grove to make their home. Io..Pacific Grove, Mr. Lee en- te# the furniture business estab- lishing the Peninsula Furniture Exchange with W. R. LaPorte as his partner. Following an active career of .some years- he retired some years Ago and devoted all of his time to civic 'affairs. CIVIC ACTIVITIES Mr. Lee served two terms on the Pacific Grove -city councilrlvas a .director. of the Peninsula Com- munity hospital: and a *Urector of the Pacific Grove museum, one of the fine'st small museums in the, world. The fine city museum build- ing Was a gift to the city from the late Mrs. Lucie Chase, ·Mr.' Lee's. aunt, and its construction and op-. eration was a project close tb his, heart. '- --· - He was. a life member 6f Starr King lodge of -Misons in Salem, Mass. Mr: Lee's wife, Mrs.* Henrietta G..Lee passed way.in May of 19422 ; Mr. Lee was a New England -·¥anltee-in--tha Arl trdition And- durin'g his ybars on· the city coun- cil proudly wore the'informal title "watchdog of the treamiry."
