Peter N. Zopolis
Peter N Zopolis, a longtime
chemist with ITT Rayonier, died
.of respiratory failure Thursday,
August 6, at Saint Peter Hospital
in Olympia He was 89 and had
been a Shelton resident since
1953.
He was born May 30, 1909, in
Chehalis to Nicholas P. and Roxa-
na (Pisperigou) Zopolis. He grad~
usted from the University of
Washington in 1933 with a de-
gree in chemistry.
He married Steena Karakalos
on April 23, 1939, in Astoria, Ore-
gon. She preceded him in death in
1984‘
After graduating from the UW,
he went to work for ITT Rayonier
as a chemist, retiring in 1974‘
ML Zopolis was a member of
Saint David’s Episcopal Church
in Shelton. He was also a member
of the American Chemical Society
and the Friendship Force, a for-
eign exchange program.
He was an active investor in
the stock market who loved to
travel and spend time socializing
with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by
his son, Nicholas, in 1965.
He is survived by son James
Zopolis and his wife Becky of
Olympia; sister Victoria Drosos of
Everett; and numerous cousins,
nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held
Tuesday, August 11, at Saint Da-
vid’s Episcopal Church The Rev-
erend Donald Maddux officiated.
Burial was at Greenwood Memo-
rial Park in Centralia.
