Detour At Visalia
Through Exeter
Construction is still under way
east of Visalia toward Merriman on
the road to Scquoia National Park,
reports the Fresno office of the N. A.
C. In order to avoid inconvenience J
caused by the work, motorists are I
detoured easterly from Visalia,
thence through Exeter and northerly
to the Park. An alternative route is
from Visalia to Woodlake, through
Lemon Cove and to the Park.
Succumbing to a paralytic stroke,
Miss Fannie F. Rowe. for many years
a Pacific Grove resident, pasad
away last Saturday morning at her
home, 122 Fourteenth street, at the
age of 74 years.
Stricken about six weeks ago, Miss
Rowe. failed to regain consciousness
from the attack.
For 35 years she had lived in Paci-
fic Grove, coming here with her
mother. Mrs. Clara Andrews Rowe.
Together they founded El Bethel
Mission a.nd devoted much of their
time to religious and missionary en-
deavors.
Her passing is mourned by four
nephews, Fred Thorne, New York;
George Thorne, Ca meroon, West
Africa: William Thorne, Berkeley;
and Clarence Thorne, Forest, Cali_
fornia; in addition to a wide circle
of friends.
'rhe Rev. John H. Hunter of the
Congregational church officiated at
the funeral services Monday after-
noon at 2:00 p. m., at Pa.ul's Mor-
tuary chapel. The chapel was crowd-
ed with friends of the deceased. Pall
bearers were the three nephews, Wil-
liam, George, and Clarence Thorne,
and Dr. Spencer Hoyt. Mrs. Spencer
Hoyt sang "Rock of Ages" and
"When I Come to the End of the
Road," accompanied by Mrs. Russell
Giles.
Interment was in El Carmelo cem-
etery.

FOR THE STORK SHOWER
ARE you planning a *'stork"
shower and wondering how
you can possibly manage it charm-
ingly and successfully without an
elaborate expenditure of mbney?
After all, it's a very human instinct
to want to spend as little as pos-
sible for a gift but to get some-
thing which really looks expensive.
Mrs. Woods, of THE JUNIOR
SHOPPE, 169!4 Fountain avenue,
shows graphically how this can be
done in a "shower window" this
week containing original, attrac-
tive and modestly-priced sugges-
tions.

CHEAPER THAN A
VACATION
lf-I AVE you a tired, jaded feeling
nov.·adays? Do you blame it on
the fact that you really should be
going on a vacation but can't af-
ford it? Maybe you are not being
quili honest with yourself. It m'ay
be only because you have neglect_
ed to keep your shoes in perfect
walking condition. Run down heels
and general shoe slovenliness can
contributo..to fatigue as much as
overwork. You may not be able to
afford a vacation, but anyone can
afford to let VICK'S REPAIR
SHOP, Forest avenue, give him
shoe comfort.
